An ominous Rangers transfer claim has been made regarding Ibrox centre-forward Alfredo Morelos…
What’s the talk?
Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has hinted at a potential exit for the attacker next month as he has played down his importance to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.
When asked about the possibility of the Colombian leaving in January, the journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t know. I think, looking at Morelos as well, he’s not the ultimate must stay anymore.”
Concerning for Rangers fans
This update will surely concern Rangers fans heading into the January transfer window, as Bridge’s comments leave the door open for a move away from the club. He has suggested that there is a chance that Morelos could be on his way out and this could worry the Ibrox faithful, particularly given the interest in the 25-year-old’s services over the summer.
Porto were reportedly keen on signing the attacker before the start of the campaign but a transfer never materialised and he remained at Ibrox. The Gers have benefitted greatly from that as Morelos has been in fantastic form this season.
Only Joe Aribo (7.39) and James Tavernier (7.79) have averaged higher WhoScored ratings than the striker (7.28) in the Premiership. He is Rangers’ top scorer in the league with eight goals and has also chipped in with four assists in 17 starts, a tally that only Tavernier (10) has surpassed.
This highlights how important he is to the team and why losing him in January would be a major blow to Van Bronckhorst’s side. That is why Gers fans will surely be concerned by this update, as Morelos leaving could significantly weaken their chances of achieving success this season.
It is now down to Van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson to avoid a disaster in January by managing to keep hold of the Colombian. At the very least, they should try and convince him to remain in Glasgow until the end of the season in order to give them more time to find a replacement so as not to disrupt the rhythm of the current campaign.
There have been no reports of official offers for Morelos as of yet but this claim from Bridge may just keep Rangers fans on edge over the coming weeks as the January window heads into full swing.
AND in other news, Van Bronckhorst can finally axe the new “Alex Rae” from Rangers by signing £4m “conductor” in January…
